 It consists of two layers:

1) The bottom layer is usually referred to as SBR or Buffing consists of shredded rubber and acts as a cushion. The thickness of this layer depends on the height falls in the area. It also depends on the manufacturer of the material. For example, in areas where there is play equipment that is 4 feet tall, the manufacturer may recommend that the buffing should be 1.5 inches thick.

2) The top layer is called layer of clothing, and usually consist of so-called EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer), which is a type of synthetic rubber.

First buffing is mixed with a binder, usually in a mortar mixer, and packed down to the required height.. This layer is usually cure for 24 hours.

The second layer is then mixed with the same binder and troweled above the first layer. The second layer takes about 48 hours to cure.
